Poetry: Gene Goldfarb’s “they beat the last fish”

senseless
for his pride when
he stood up to them
on his iridescent fins
and called their bible
dirt in perfect Aramaic
so they hid their shame
and made him bleed
like his brethren
whom they strangled
and cut up and ate before
they invented stories
lauding themselves
as kings to the cows and
sea creatures

Gene Goldfarb, a Long Islander, loves writing and keeps trying it. His poems have appeared in the very small press, among these being Lalitamba, Stoneboat, SLANT, Thin Air, and Black Fox.  His blogs have also appeared in Black Fox.
