Mini-interview with Hal Flower
HFR: Can you share a moment that has shaped you as a writer (or continues to)?
HF: While attending a series of screenings of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s The Decalogue, I came to understand that the writer’s aspiration ought to be clarity, not complexity.
HFR: What are you reading?
HF: Having recently finished and enjoyed Penelope Fitzgerald’s The Blue Flower, I will return to Dostoevsky’s Demons, which I’ve been reading on and off.
HFR: Can you tell us what prompted “Young Lions”?
HF: It was the story I was able to tell.
HFR: What’s next? What are you working on?
HF: I am working on another story featuring the protagonist of “Young Lions,” which is nearing completion.
HFR: Take the floor. Be political. Be fanatical. Be anything. What do you want to share?
HF: My thanks to the editors of Heavy Feather Review for publishing this story and to those who take the time to read it. I can be reached at halflowercomics@gmail.com.
